A Guide to making funeral arrangements

Costs and charges The funeral account itself is divided into two separate parts, the Funeral Directors Charges and the Disbursements. The Funeral Directors Charges are for the provision of: Our 24 hour service Making all funeral arrangements, whether at our office or your home Completion of all necessary documentation Conveyance of the deceased to our private chapels of rest The use of the chapels (by appointment) by relatives and friends until the day of the funeral Provision of a coffin Completing our preparations Provision of a hearse at the funeral Disbursements are fees that we pay out on your behalf eg. Doctors’ fees, Crematorium/Cemetery fees and Church or Ministers’ fees. Our estimate will detail the approximate cost of any disbursements, however it must be appreciated that we will have no direct control over these charges, and they could therefore be subject to variations. These disbursements will be included in a single account which is forwarded approximately seven to ten days following the funeral. Our terms of payment are 35 days from the funeral date. We reserve the right to charge interest on any outstanding account. Payment by debit card, credit card or BACS is accepted. If the deceased held an account, payment or part payment may be made by a high street bank or building society on production of our invoice and a death certificate. Help with funeral costs The Department for Work and Pensions may make a contribution towards the cost of a simple funeral within the United Kingdom if you are in receipt of certain benefits. This process may take a number of weeks and financial help is not guaranteed. For further information call 0845 606 0265 or call into the local Jobcentre Plus for an application form.
